Your Treasure

I was driving through Highland Park last night on the way to meet my brother. As most of you know, it is one of the nicest, most over the top expensive areas in the metroplex. I had my mouth gaping open at the massive mansions all these people had. This was a street I had never been down and houses I thought only existed in Richie Rich's universe, yet there was a whole neighborhood of these homes that peeked through gates of stone and steel guarding each one.

A thought came to me... none of these people can take any of this with them when they leave this Earth. Their granite countertops, spiral staircases, fountains and Maserati's sitting in the driveway will stay here. Now don't get me wrong if you earned a nice, honest living for yourself and kept the green eyed monster from enveloping your soul, that's great! If the Lord has blessed you with good money sense and wise investments then I have no problem with that. It is good to blessed, wealthy and living a life free from financial woes. God can bless you tremendously, if He knows you can handle it.

What do I mean if you can handle it? Well, some of those people went through hell and back to get where they were. Perhaps they came from mountains of debt and wisened up on the trap it can set and paid off stuff and have what they do through lessons learned. But there are some that live in those homes that are drowning in not only debt, but selfishness, loneliness, and greed.

Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Some people have turned their backs on God or never knew Him in the first place so they build their heaven on Earth. They labor in vain only to wonder what happened to their family, their hope, their peace. When our life becomes so consumed with material possessions and more, more, more we can easily allow it to push out God.

But when our focus stays fixed on Jesus and allow Him to meet our needs accordingly, we can be assured that our thankful hearts pleases not only the Father but ourselves. We can truly live the abundant life that does not mean wealth and riches, but a life filled with love, joy and peace and the many more fruits of the Spirit. With this mindset, you become rich whether you  have money in the bank or not.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

Don't waste your time on this Earth chasing after things that don't last. Invest in your children, your marriage, your relationship with God. This type of legacy will last far longer than any inheritance.

Let's let Jehovah Jireh (our Provider) provide for us today!
