Lifting Our Sword

(Today's blog is a little different, it is an excerpt from my new book, Arm Yourself: Equipping Ourselves with the Armor of God, coming soon!)

No matter where we have been, no matter our past or family heritage, no matter our sin or our current situation, we can all become the person God created us to be. God promises that all we have to do is call upon His name and we will be saved, restored, renewed, healed, loved, and anchored into Him! We just have to make that first step and realize that without Him we are nothing and can do nothing; at least nothing of any true and lasting value.
Nothing worth having ever comes easy. It comes by hard work, and let me assure you this is hard work. It doesn’t come easy nor does it come naturally. It’s just like when I first went to the gym and had my first session with a personal trainer. She had me doing all kinds of strength training and cardio exercises and stretched me to limits that I didn’t know my body could go. Afterwards, I was so incredibly sore that Ibuprofen and Epsom Salt baths were barely making a dent in my pain levels. But that pain was my muscles tearing, growing, and strengthening so that the next time I worked out, it wasn’t going to hurt as bad.
If you don’t use your muscles, you lose them. But when they are stretched and grown during times of hard exercise, they will be able to hold more and lift higher. It’s the same thing with your spiritual arm muscle that waves your sword. It may feel awkward putting scripture all over your house, your car, your desktop, or wherever, but the more you commit these scriptures to memory the more you will see results happening all around you-in your personal, work, or home life.
It is a gradual change, not something that happens overnight. When you wake up in the morning, I encourage you to start reading God’s word aloud. Find a scripture that speaks life to you for that day and meditate on it. Say it, speak it; yell it if you have to! Write it on a chalkboard and discuss it with your family. One of my favorite things to do is read it in several different bible translations until it pierces my heart with it’s truth. Bottom line here is get some WORD into your heart, life, family, finances, etc.. and see if things don’t begin to change… for the better!
Speaking God’s word and claiming scriptures over our situation doesn’t have to be just speaking. It can be singing, worshipping, praising, and shouting. You don’t need to have the best voice but a heart full of sincere praise to God. It sets your mind free and gets the devil to flee!

Enjoy this powerful song by Moriah Peter's "Stand Strong". Also for a chance to win a copy of her latest CD "Brave", see details below. Music, as you can tell is a big part of my relationship with God and this CD is packed full of powerful anthems that will encourage and inspire!
