The first couple of tunes that played in my car were upbeat guitar driven tunes that couldn't help but light up my day as I was driving around town running errands. "O' Happy Day" and "Shine" earned rave reviews from my children, also, because it featured Joy's daughter Heavenly Joy Jerkins. She is a darling little girl that was first spotlighted on America's Got Talent a while back.
Obviously amazing talent runs in this family! The video featured below, "Shine" that was used to promote breast cancer awareness is also included in the CD. It also shows off the incredible talent of her five year old daughter.
Joy is a strong powerhouse vocalist that brings me back to the years of listening to other Christian music greats from my past like Crystal Lewis or Rachael Lampa. The ballads sprinkled in the middle like "Conquer" or "Shelter" are ones I put on repeat. The truth of the lyrics combined with such conviction of heart and soul conveyed through Joy's voice, create an amazing musical experience.
She also does some pretty amazing collaboration pieces like "Hallelujah" featuring Kirk Franklin and the amazing violinist Lindsey Sterling. She also features this song in Spanish at the end of the album as a nod to her Hispanic roots.
Joy Enriquez has become a household favorite now. I can't wait to see where not only her career takes off, but her daughter's, Heavenly Joy, as well.
